About this work

This work emerged from "spike-like discomfort" I experienced while living in the United States. Through conversations with friends from different countries, I came to realize the pain caused by conflicting memories and perceptions of history, as well as the contradictory desire, which present in both myself and others, to stay connected and to live together despite those differences.

While carrying a constant sense of tension, I was saved by the warmth found in simple physical gestures, such as a hug. Based on these experiences, this piece employs soft materials and sound in the form of installation. It visualizes the complex emotions of "not wanting to be touched, yet wanting to be touched," and explores the possibilities of connection in an age of division. I invite you to step into the artwork, take a seat facing the window, and allow yourself to be immersed in this installation.

* Exhibited at "回帰観測 (Return Observe)" in the Kudansaka-ue KS Building (Tokyo, Japan)
